WORK STATEMENT

From ancient times to now, there have been immense transformations. These transformations carry secrets. They tell stories. However, we seem to have forgotten ways to see, understand and engage with them. The Silk Route itself is a hugely significant phase of history. Spanning over seven centuries, the route, through a large network of roads connected Asia, Europe and Africa, passing through China, India, Persia, Arabia, Greece and Italy. It was because of the Silk Route that different regions were brought together and became complementary to each other. The exchange that happened via the Silk Route had its influence on cultures, languages, knowledge systems, nature and ecology. I have titled my work ‘AARAMBH’, meaning Beginning; because the Silk Route itself has been a new beginning. A beginning in the way it connected these different regions. In my work, I have made a small endeavor to capture the geographical characteristics of the Silk Route and its influences on the regions/ countries, its flora and its ecology. As a significant occurrence in history, the Silk Route has had far reaching influences and consequences that have shaped our present and will continue to shape the future of many countries and their trade relations. My participation in this exhibition has given me the opportunity to know, understand and engage with ideas around the Silk Route. I express my gratitude to the organizers of this exhibition and I hope this work will bring a new perspective on the Silk Route.
